Do This, Not That for Your Landscape Business this Winter

The winter landscaping industry looks different for each landscape professional across the country. For some, there’s still grass to cut while others are parking their fleets in the garage until the snow melts. No matter what your winter season looks like, there are a few essential things landscape pros should and should not do to make the most of the season.

Kubota Turf Product Manager Tom Vachal shares his essential Do’s and Don’ts for landscapers this winter season.

#1 - DO keep up with regular equipment maintenance.

“Whether you’re storing your equipment until spring or continuing to operate, make sure all equipment is ready for the season by doing things like adding fresh fluids, regularly inspecting all belts for failure points and verifying that all switches are working properly.”

#2 – DON’T leave work on the table.

“Even if there isn’t grass to cut, your current clients may have other needs like leaf removal, snow removal, or jobs they might outsource to other contractors. Check in with your customers and offer up these services and continue to build revenue all year long.”

#3 – DO look for ways to save on your business expenses.

“The winter season presents a great opportunity to evaluate your business and look for areas where you can save in expenses in preparation for spring and summer. Landscapers can often find discounted parts during the tail end of the season. Having parts on hand in the summer could save you a considerable amount in repair costs. You should also evaluate their equipment and determine if you’ll need to make any large purchases before the start of next season. Programs like Kubota’s Turf Fleet Program are designed to save landscape pros money the more equipment and attachments they buy. By determining exactly what your needs are, you can make the most of the Turf Fleet Program and maximize savings.”
